There will be a total Lunar eclipse on March 13 and 14th. Lunar eclipses are times of heightened emotion, especially when the lunar eclipse occurs before the solar eclipse, as it does during this eclipse. But there are some factors that will balance out the difficulty for this eclipse: When a lunar eclipse occurs over the course of two days, the first day is usually the most difficult. For this eclipse, only part of the eclipse will be seen on March 13th. Because most of Europe, Africa, Australia and parts of China and Russia will not experience the full eclipse, the impact in these locations is somewhat lessened. While most of Canada, the USA, and the western half of South America will experience the full eclipse, it doesn’t begin until around midnight on the 13th and only the penumbral phase occurs at that time. The partial eclipse begins at 1:09am on the east coast of the USA, the full eclipse begins at 2:26am and the maximum eclipse will be at 2:58am. The entire eclipse will be over on the 14th at 6:09am, EDT.
Although the timing of the eclipse lessens the impact slightly, this will be an emotional time for many, especially Pisces, Cancer and Leo ascendants, those who were born with the Moon in these three signs, and those who were born with the Sun or Rahu in Pisces.
Spiritual practice during eclipses is recommended for everyone who can do so, even if you live where the eclipse will not be seen. Traditional teaching is that the benefit of spiritual practice is greatly multiplied during an eclipse. Meditation and mantra practice are particularly recommended. A traditional mantra for the Moon is OM CHANDRAYA NAMAHA. If you are experiencing emotional challenges at this time AND are comfortable with mantra practice, OM SHRAM SHREEM SHRAUM SAH CHANDRAYA NAMAHA is a beautiful remedy mantra for the Moon. Repeat either mantra at least 108 times.
Here are the phases of the Lunar eclipse. Please adjust for your time zone:
March 13, 11:57pm (EDT) Penumbral
March 14, 1:09am (EDT) Partial begins
2:26am (EDT) Full eclipse begins
2:58am (EDT) Maximum eclipse
3:31am (EDT) Full eclipse ends
4:47am (EDT) Partial eclipse ends
6:09am (EDT) Penumbral ends
At the fullest point of this eclipse, the Moon is in the doorway between Leo and Virgo, at 29:45 degrees of Leo. The Sun is also in the doorway between two signs: Aquarius and Pisces, at 29:44 of Aquarius. The Moon fully enters Virgo at 3:27am, March 14th, EDT. The Sun enters Pisces at 9:20am, EDT, after the eclipse is over.
Watching the Lunar eclipse and eating or drinking during the eclipse are not traditionally recommended. Please consult your spiritual teacher and/or medical practitioner for guidance if you have any concerns about this.
Eclipses almost always come in pairs. There will be a solar eclipse on March 29th, 2025.
