The Moon will be new in sidereal Leo today, Thursday, September 14th at 9:39pm, EDT (please adjust for your time zone.) Each month, the New Moon is an assignment from the universe for us to work with in the next 30 days. This month is a time to focus on our highest ideals with regard to the things we love the most.
The New Moon happens when the Moon reunites with the Sun. This month, the Moon and the Sun are reunited in the sattvic sign of Leo. “Sattvic” means that planets here will be encouraged to operate on a level that focuses on the highest good for all beings. This is very comfortable for the Moon, because she is a sattvic planet. The Sun, who rules Leo, is also a sattvic planet, so this month, the Moon and Sun are united in their focus on the highest good for all beings in an environment that is very conducive to this focus. In addition, the Moon and Sun are united at the highest point of all the planets in the chart. Each sign is 30 degrees wide, and the Moon and Sun are united at 27 degrees and 41 minutes of Leo. This increases our focus on the highest good, and supports each of us as we reach for the highest level of spiritual experience we can envision.
This New Moon is taking place in the fifth house of this chart, because the ascendant of the chart is in Aries. The fifth house represents what we love the most, whether that is children, our creativity and/or work, a lover, or our partner/spouse if we are in love with them. Each of us will be somewhat drawn toward these things, even if we are not Aries ascendants. But if you are an Aries ascendant, these areas of life will be a strong influence for us. ARIES – 5th House, a focus on what you love the most, whether that is children, your creativity and/or work, a lover, or your partner/spouse if you are in love with them.
TAURUS – 4th House, a focus on your mother, mother figures, your home and your personal spiritual practices.
GEMINI – 3rd House, a focus on brothers/brother figures, spiritual practices with spiritual siblings. If you are motivated toward competition, do not allow it to distract you from spiritual practice.

LEO – This New Moon is happening in your 1st House. It is a time to focus on your spirituality, even if you haven’t explored it before. What is your purpose in life? Does this purpose include your spiritual life? How can you adjust your life to include a strong spiritual focus?
VIRGO – 12th House. The 12th house is a house that focuses on spiritual progress and the first 10 degrees of Virgo include Utttara Phalguni nakshatra, where this New Moon is happening. All Virgo ascendants will be motivated toward spiritual practice this month, and may want to reorganize parts of their life to allow more time for spiritual practice. This desire will be strengthened in those whose ascendant is located in the first 10 degrees of Virgo.
LIBRA – 11th House. In addition to your own spiritual practice, you may be motivated to host a beautiful spiritual practice in your home or temple/ashram/community center, etc.
SCORPIO – 10th House. You may be drawn toward ways to use your career toward spiritual practice for others. Perhaps your workplace would want to have a meditation room or class, etc.
SAGITTARIUS – 9th House. The 9th house is a place where we fulfill our dharma (purpose) toward those we don’t know personally. Could you do something to help those you don’t know to have the time and/or resources to pursue spiritual progress?
CAPRICORN – 8th House. This month is an excellent time to study spiritual mysteries, or to get a consultation from a practitioner in one of the mysteries that interests you. If you are a practitioner of a spiritual mystery, be aware that there may be someone who needs your expertise this month.
AQUARIUS – 7th House. If you are in a long-term relationship, this would be an excellent time to share a spiritual practice together. If you are seeking a long-term relationship, this is a good time to consider the spiritual aspect of that relationship and to “call in” one whose spiritual life is compatible with your own.
PISCES – 6th House. In the sixth house we work to fulfill and attain what we love the most. What/who do you love? What are you willing to do to express/fulfill that love? Is your spiritual life consistent with what you love?
