There will be a Solar Eclipse on Wednesday, October 2nd in the sign of sidereal Virgo. This eclipse will only be visible in the southern portion of South America and Antartica, but it will impact many people energetically. This impact is already being felt by many people, especially people who have Leo, Cancer or Virgo ascendants or those who have their Moon in Cancer, Leo or Virgo.
During this eclipse, the Sun will be eclipsed by the Moon and Ketu. The Sun rules our health and our vision for the world. Ketu makes us feel that our efforts are not good enough, even when we are working very hard. You may feel discouraged about your efforts in the world—that everything you try is not good enough. The Moon’s presence may increase your challenging emotions: anger, frustration, sadness, etc. While many think that these feelings will evaporate immediately after the eclipse is over, they may linger for a week or more after the eclipse ends. After the eclipse is over, daily exercise and gentle inversions (if your health allows) are highly recommended.
Spiritual practice during an eclipse is highly recommended. Traditional teaching is that the benefits of spiritual practice are multiplied during an eclipse, up to 1000%.
Here are the eclipse times for the EDT time zone of the USA/Canada and the UTC (Coordinated Universal Time.) Please adjust for your time zone.
Eastern Daylight Time Universal Time
Partial eclipse begins at 11:33am UTC 3:43pm
Total eclipse begins at 12:50pm UTC 4:50pm
Maximum eclipse is at 2:45pm UTC 6:45pm
The full eclipse ends at 4:40pm UTC 8:40pm
The partial eclipse ends at 5:47pm UTC 9:47pm
Here are some specifics for each sign and house. Remember to check for your ascendant and your Moon placement.
Virgo ascendants — the eclipse is in your 1st House: This may have an impact on your health, your sense of self and the vision you have for your life. Avoid strenuous activity and delay important decisions for at least one week if you can.
Libra ascendants – the eclipse is in your 12th House: This may impact your spiritual life, cause difficulties if you’re travelling, and increase the chances of hospitalization, incarceration, or other restrictive environments. This is an especially good time for spiritual practice.
Scorpio ascendants – the eclipse is in your 11th house which may impact your efforts to create positive results in the world. Continue with your plans, but delay implementing them for 2 weeks, if you can. If you are an American who is concerned about the outcome of the coming election, offering mantras for your country and making plans to volunteer and/or donate is very useful today.
Sagittarius ascendants – the eclipse is in your 10th house, which may impact your career and efforts you make on behalf of those you don’t know. Allow extra time for planning and get advice about your plans from people you trust before implementing them, if you can. Delay important career decisions for at least one week if possible.
Capricorn ascendants – the eclipse is in your 9th house, which may impact your relationship with spiritual teachers or your spiritual practice. Because this eclipse tends to be benefic for you, spend more time in meditation and other practices if you can. Remember, the benefits of spiritual practice are multiplied during eclipses, so take advantage of this opportunity if you can.
Aquarius ascendants – the eclipse is in your 8th house, which may impact your spiritual study/practice and your relationship with your father or father-figures. Avoid arguing with them if at all possible. Be patient in your spiritual studies and take advantage of this spiritual opportunity today.
Pisces ascendants – the eclipse is in your 7th house and your ruling planet, Jupiter is currently weak. If you can, take advantage of the spiritual opportunity to practice today as this can benefit your romantic relationship(s), very long-term friendships, and your collaboration with any very long-term partners at work. Be gentle and patient with these important people in your life and if you can, delay any important conversations with them about your relationship for at least one week.
Aries ascendants – the eclipse is in your 6th house, possibly creating a tendency toward illness for you or for those very close to you. Take good care of yourself and be patient in caretaking for others if this becomes necessary. This may also be a time when an unknown enemy could attempt to undermine you, especially at work. Avoid jumping to conclusions, but don’t bury your head in the sand either. If you can, take advantage of the opportunity for spiritual practice today.
Taurus ascendants – the eclipse is in your 5th house, which may disrupt a romantic relationship or interfere with important things for your children. Listen carefully to those you love and take good care of yourself, so you will be able to take care of these important loved ones if it becomes necessary. Jupiter, the giver of children, is currently weak in your first house, so offer spiritual practice on behalf of children during the eclipse if you can.
Gemini ascendants – the eclipse is in your 4th house, which may disrupt your relationship with your mother or mother-figures. It can also cause problems with your home, or car, so pay close attention and deal with any needed repairs promptly. If you can take advantage of the spiritual opportunity for practice during this eclipse, include your mother, grandmothers and mother-figures when you set your intentions.
Cancer ascendants – the eclipse is in your 3rd house, which may disrupt your relationship with your brother. It can also make you prone to injury, so avoid aggressive physical activities where possible. If your life includes challenging physical work, be particularly attentive to safety and for at least one week after the eclipse ends.
Leo ascendants – the eclipse is in your 2nd house, which can cause difficulty with finances or your ability to communicate clearly. Take care in communicating with family and close friends. Avoid careless spending and postpone large expenditures for at least one week if possible.
